Taylormade M1 Driver – 2017 Model

Your passion for golf and the quest for a driver that maximizes distance to match your clubhead speed are evident. Let’s dive into a comprehensive Taylormade M1 Driver Review—a guide crafted for avid golfers like yourself who seek the pinnacle in golf driver technology.

It’s no secret that Taylormade Golf Drivers are the preferred choice of some of the world’s best golfers, and for good reason. Renowned as one of the most widely used and top-rated golf drivers globally, Taylormade consistently sets the standard for innovative golf equipment, making them the go-to brand on professional tours.

Enter the Taylormade M1 Golf Driver—a beacon of adjustability tailored for the more consistent players among us. This driver is more than just a club; it’s a testament to Taylormade’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of golfing performance.

Allow me to shed light on some of the technological features that distinguish the Taylormade M1 as one of the top-ranked golf drivers on the market. Because when it comes to your game, the right equipment can make all the difference, and the Taylormade M1 is poised to take your golfing experience to new heights.

Features

Carbon Composite Two-Tone Crown

The M1 Driver features MultiMaterial construction with Carbon materials and Titanium.

The driver head has a white titanium front section and a black carbon composite back section. This Taylormade Golf Driver contains more Carbon than the previous model, which saves weight that can be used in other areas.

The M1 2017 driver incorporated a multi-material construction, combining a lightweight carbon composite crown with a titanium face and sole. This construction helped to optimize the distribution of weight, increasing forgiveness and stability while maintaining a low center of gravity.

As you can see the White Front and Black Back of the Driver allows for a great visual. Most golfers are hitting a white ball so this matches in well, and the white section is a little thinner compared to the previous model, which saves weight to be used in other areas.

Movable Weight Technology

The Movable Weight Technology has worked really well with Taylormade drivers in the past, and the Taylormade M1 2017 model is no different. There is a feature to adjust weights for both flight path and spin rate.

Taylormade M1 Driver

The rear weight track has been made longer in this model for a greater adjustability in different conditions. The rear weight is also two grams heavier compared to the first M1 model, which was achieved by saving weight in other areas. The rear weight track is designed to help hit a higher or lower ball and also reduce spin. Put it in the front position to achieve a lower ball with less spin, and put it in the back to achieve a higher ball flight.

The front track weight is 15 grams and will allow you to optimise the shape of your shots. To give you an example, if you want to hit a draw, which is right to left shape for the right-handed golfer, then you need to put the heavier weight in the heel of the club, which helps turn the face over at impact to promote a draw.

These weights can give you up to 25 yards of workability left or right to help optimise your ball flight.

Don’t get mislead though, if you hit any golf club with an open face it will slice and taking some basic golf swing lessons would be the faster way to improve.

Changing these weights just means the slice will not be as severe as opposed to having it in a neutral position.

The more consistent ball strikers will see a greater change in ball flight and performance with these weights.

Adjustable Loft Sleeve

The Adjustable Loft Sleeve will help the golfer optimise their launch to hit the ball higher or lower. This is a great feature as being able to do this is ideal for different weather conditions.

The Taylormade M1 Driver comes with twelve choices of loft. The standard loft can be adjusted two degrees higher or lower. It can also be changed in increments of 0.4, 0.6 and 1 degree.

The options are there if you need them, but finding the correct setting and sticking to it is the best way to set your driver. The loft sleeve is also aluminum, which makes it easier to adjust shafts compared to the plastic used on the previous model.

Three Stock Shaft Options

The unique thing about this particular club is the three stock shaft options that are available, which not a lot of companies provide.

Taylormade has tried and tested three unique shaft options to achieve a low, medium and higher ball flight. Most golfers with a bit of ability generally know what their most consistent launch pattern is.

Taylormade has included the following three Taylormade Golf Driver Shafts as standard options.

Fujikura Pro XLR8 56 – Provides a Higher Launch

Mitsubishi Kuro Kage Silver Dual-Core TiNi 60 – Provides a Mid Launch

Project X HZRDUS Yellow 65 – Provides a Low Launch

Targeted at which golfer?

A best golf driver that will generate a little less spin off the face will always be targeted at the more consistent ball strikers. If you are the sort of golfer that trusts their swing and likes to optimise their ball flight, then the new Taylormade M1 Driver is for you.

The adjustability can be a little confusing to some golfers, but you still always have the option of setting the driver to neutral if you find it confusing.

Although this club head is not the most forgiving, compared to other models, the adjustable front weight will help counteract a slice to a small degree. It will not fix any swing faults, so if you continue to slice the ball, you have a technique issue and should consider a lesson from a qualified golf coach.

The driver is available in right and left-handed, although the only left-hand lofts available are the 9.5 and 10.5 lofts. This is fine because of the four degrees of loft optimisation to change the launch.

A smaller 440 cubic centimetre head is also available for the better golfers that prefer even more advanced workability and shot shaping.

Here is a quick teaser video of some of the worlds best golfers, including the current top 2, trying out the new 2017 Taylormade Driver for the first time.

Conclusion

Although this new driver shares the same name as the old model, there are actually quite a few significant differences between this new 2017 model and the first generation M1 Driver.

Some small differences in the adjustable weights, which will help further optimise the ideal ball flight. More carbon creates a lighter head, which allows the centre of gravity to be further back in the club head. The sound on this model has also been improved compared to the previous model.

So if you are after a driver that provides great distance and performance. The new Taylormade M1 Driver is a great choice and one of the best new golf drivers on the market.

      Thanks for your comments.

The Taylormade M1 Driver is a great golf club. If you watched the US Masters on the weekend, you would have noticed the amount of players that have it in their bag. Augusta requires golfers to be able to shape the ball lots and this driver is fantastic for that. Great to see Sergio Garcia win his first major also

Hopefully you get out for a game soon with the weather warming up.

      Cheers

Yes, I have had a chance to use this club and the performance is fantastic. I really like the sound at impact from this driver when it is struck well. I don’t normally mess around too much with the weights, but I found when I had the rear weight track urther forward, I managed to generate a more penetrating ball flight.
