Taylormade M2 Driver Review – New Model

Are you after a driver that is easy to hit and will allow maximum distance for your clubhead speed? Here is a Taylormade M2 Driver Review showing all the features and benefits of one of the better performing golf drivers.

Taylormade is one of the most widely used drivers worldwide and a favourite with some of the world’s best golfers. The Taylormade M2 Driver will provide fantastic distance, performance, and control.

Here is a brief breakdown of some of the technological features that make this golf club one of the better options for maximum forgiveness and distance.

Features

Multi-Material Design

The new Taylormade M2 Driver features a 6 layer carbon composite crown, which allows for strategic centre of gravity placement. A thinner 9-1-1 Titanium sole combines with the 6 layer carbon composite crown to create an ultra forgiving golf club. This basically means that weight has been saved to be utilized in other areas of the golf club.

Geocoustic Sole Design

The Geocoustic Sole Design is a new feature that optimises head size geometry. It helps create a 7% larger face area, which is going to create a larger sweet spot.

This basically means the titanium section of the sole of the club has been sunken in a little to save weight and allow up to 25 grams of weight to be positioned low and back.

Redesigned Speed Pocket

The Speed Pocket has been a popular feature of Taylormade woods in recent years. The speed pocket on the new Taylormade M2 Driver has been redesigned, which is three times as flexible as the last model. This is going to provide more ball speed at impact, which will generate greater distance.

Loft Sleeve

The loft sleeve in the new M2 is also aluminum instead of plastic, which makes shaft optimisation a little easier than the previous model.

The desired loft can be set with the Taylormade wrench that is provided with the golf club. This means if you had a 9.5-degree driver you could loft it up or down as much as two degrees to achieve an optimum ball flight. Smaller increments of 0.4, 0.6 and 1 degree can also be used to generate the desired launch.

Targeted at Which Golfer?

Golf drivers are tested vigorously and made as forgiving as possible in this day and age.

There is no real target golfer for this driver, but the new Taylormade M2 Driver is a great golf club for the golfer who wants maximum forgiveness and distance. It will help launch the ball higher, and with some of these new features, it performs really well compared to some of its competitions.

The club is available in right-handed with lofts of 9.5,10.5 and 12 degrees. The lefties also don’t miss out with the driver in the loft options of 9.5 and 10.5 degrees. The 9.5-degree driver is a great option for the left-handed player who wants a lower ball flight. The loft can be changed to a lower 7.5-degree setting.

As many as 30 Custom Shafts are also available in this model, but the standard Fujikura Pro XLR8 56 High Launch Shaft has been tried and tested to target most golfers.

M2 D Type Driver

This is another alternate driver with the D Standing for Draw. If your common bad shot is the slice then never fear as the M2 D Type driver is designed to help counteract this with up to twenty yards of draw bias.

The majority of the sole weight in this model is more towards the heel, and the face is one degree closed compared to the standard model. The shaping of the top of the golf club creates an optical illusion so the club does not look closed at all. A great option if you prefer to draw the ball, or struggle with the dreaded slice.

The club is available in both right and left handed and features the very well performing Matrix Ozil MF5 Shaft, which will help promote an ideal launch.

Taylormade M2 D Type Driver

Conclusion

The new Taylormade M Series Drivers may share the same name as the previous model, but there are a few subtle changes as described above.

The Taylormade M2 Driver does not have quite the adjustability as the M1 model, but I know some golfers find all those settings a little confusing. The Taylormade M2 Model will provide distance and the best chance to hit the golf ball down the fairway as long as possible.

I’ll leave you with a short video of 2017 US Masters Champion Sergio Garcia testing the Taylormade M Series of Drivers. You might be surprised as to which model he picked, but remember he used that driver to help win arguably the worlds most prestigious golf event.

Man this Taylormade M2 Driver sounds awesome Chris! You did a really good job with this review, really detailed and clearly highlights why this is a great driver – i personally prefer that it doesn’t have the adjustability of the M1, as i don’t like too many distractions while I’m focusing on building my Birdies πŸ™‚

    Thanks for sharing this!

      Hi Marley

      Thanks for your comments.

The Taylormade M2 Driver is a forgiving driver targeted at any ability level. I don’t tend to adjust the weights much, so I’d also prefer the M2 model.

      Just keep making birdies man.

      Cheers

That looks like one sweet driver! I bet I could gain 50+ yards on my max drive if I had that! I have no doubt that it has the explosive power, but does it have the control? The power is important but the control may even be more important in terms of strokes.

      Hi Nik

      I appreciate your comments.

Yes, the Taylormade M2 Driver is a forgiving model that can help with hitting the fairways. 50 extra yards might be stretching it, but Taylormade have done all they can to squeeze as much distance out of this driver. The winner of the 2017 US Masters also had this driver in his bag.

      Cheers

This is a great review, thanks Chris. The hubby has been thinking of adding a club to his golfing arsenal as he is always trying to get better at his game and always wanting that elusive birdie πŸ™‚ One day I keep telling him… It’s his birthday in a couple of months and I want to get a new club for him. I am impressed with the M2 and if it helps get him closer to that birdie then this is likely will be the one.

This is an excellent review of the Taylormade M2 Driver, Chris. I love watching golf on TV and have always been fascinated by the distance that top golfers can send the golf ball from the tee.

An amateur golfing friend of mine from Macclesfield, England, taught me about the Yonex driver some years back. With that driver, he could send the ball over 260 yards. That was awesome then.

But now, after reading this review of the M2 driver, I get the impression that technology has advanced even more. The Yonex I just mentioned was particularly good. My friend was in fact selected to test the Yonex in a special Yonex event in Southport, Lancashire, because he was then Macclesfield Golf Club’s best driver.

Sergio Garcia – in the very informative video here – likes the M2. He drove the ball 280+ yards. I bet, with a bit of tailwind, 300+ yards is easily achievable with this driver. Cool!

And it’s available direct from Amazon.

      Hi Jan

      I appreciate your comments.

The Taylormade M2 Driver is definitely one of the best in the current market for both distance and forgiveness. Sergio Garcia has certainly hit it well this year. The Yonex range were great in their day, but technology has changed significantly in recent years.

It is definitely available on Amazon at a decent price.

      Cheers

    Hey Chris,
Awesome review, sounds like a great club for the average golfer like me. Not too many adjustments too get distracted with, there is enough going through my head when I stand over the ball at the tee box. A larger sweet spot is great too AND the draw model, most guys I play with, including myself have trouble with the slice, or trying not to slice and hitting a snap hook. Do you know how popular this has become with the average golfer ?

    1. Chris Post author

      Hi Matt

      I appreciate your comments.

The Taylormade M2 has been one of the better selling drivers in 2017. It is not too confusing for the average golfer with minimal adjustments. The D Type model is a great option for golfers who struggle with the slice and don’t really get much time to practice.

      Thanks for stopping by.

      Chris
